bird video
For weeks I watched these birds. Every evening they would gather from different directions and, at dusk, circle over the forest and dive down in groups to nest for the night. At dawn, they would emerge all at once and noisily disperse. Watching them was mesmerizing. The way they ebbed and flowed reminded me of ocean waves coming ashore and receding. They were graceful, choreographed dancers of the sky. The video sound includes the surrounding urban noises. The forest was in the process of being cleared for a housing development. Eventually, the construction encroached on their nesting site, and the birds disappeared. They have not returned.

Photographs from bird video installation at C3 Lab in Charlotte. Projected onto ceiling over grass, viewers could lie on the grass and watch the video.
